Mp3Squisher - Freeware with a Splash!

What is it?: This *free program can give you added hours, doubling to quadrupling your Ipod storage capacity. Its like buying a second and third Ipod. This batch transcoder can automatically keeps your Mp3 format but squishes your music and voice podcasts to unbelievably small files--with little noticeable loss of quality--for chipplayer and faster burn/transfers. Other break throughs is its file merger ability, built in automatic file management that other encoders lack, and designed for little or no human interaction each day. Your podcasts can be automatically ready to load in new smaller format up to and over 100 hours of listening per gig or CD!

Usage: Click to run (installer included, little to install, no dependecies or ini settings). Just choose a setting, let it timeout, check "run daily at 4:45 am", or configure to run in silent mode. Immediately on choosing a quality, it will squish your mp3s (podcasts) with little loss in quality. It can be scheduled every night/day with no human interaction. Or single click encoding and file moving.

First run, just choose main folder2squish (use rip folder or podcast folder) and output folder. If you choose to use Mp3squisher only as a drop encoding program (which doesn't touch dropped folders or mp3s), then your folder2squish is just an essential temporary folder in effect. On each regular run, a main quality choice window will appear.

Advantages: Keeps format MP3 for compatibility and quality. Single click usage, or automatic run at night (just point to podcast or rip folder), after first run; no constant file selecting as with all other transcoders. Advanced Proprietary compression settings for smaller, artifact free files from 17 kps (AM radio) to 34Kps (fm radio) to 41 Kps mp3 vbrs. Great for podcasts or any time you need small files at best tradeoff quality to size available.

Selling point:The costs of large files are: transfer time, backup time, backup space, worse battery life, more skip prone on cds, 30 hours v 100 hours per gig means loss of a variety of choices to the listening user. This program is like a free Ipod (generic usage of word) or three, since it will up to triple your Ipod's capacity.

Tip: Practice on some mp3s with various settings first to find a q you like before setting a permanent quality. The 122 setting music is okay for chip players. For voice mp3s, it is insane not to go for listen ability over transparency. The costs of large files are: transfer time, backup time, backup space, up to and over 100 hours per gig on portable players, variety of choices to the listening user. The q2 is fine in real world--on home dvd player, on car stereo, on inner ear buds. With AM radio sound--sans static or dropout--the q2 setting still may be the least transparent, largely artifact free, setting compared to my other favorite settings: 3, U, 4.

Voice compression tip: People, for over 100 years, have been listening to voice at AM, Shortwave, Oldtime Radio, with no psychological damage to listener. It is a recent phenomenon that people are obsessing with voice recording needing to sound like the reader or speaker is in same room. All my settings here are with no or minimal metallic artifacts. * The very best encoder is used with many hours of advanced and experimental settings.

For hearing loss reduction too, voice recordings should be listened to with isolating passive noise cancelling ear-buds at lowest possible volume.

Customize your level: Edit the q files. Athlower is easiest way to change artifact/size level. Higher the negative number, the smaller file with more artifacts.
